Teams that Win when Markets Don’t

Executive Agility, moving without perfect information

Two companies get the same news on the same morning. A supplier fails. A rate moves. Then a competitor ships something nobody expected. One company reads the shift and acts inside it. The other waits, studies, and adjusts after the moment closes. So the market punishes one and rewards the other. Same shock. Same information. […]

The Experience Crisis No One’s Talking About (Yet)

Magnifying Glass on a brain

The word “apprenticeship” comes from Renaissance-era Latin — “someone learning.” Guilds formalized what humans had always known: mastery isn’t taught. It’s built through reps. Through doing the work badly enough times that you start to feel when it’s right.
That concept hasn’t changed in 600 years. But the reps just disappeared.
AI is absorbing the exact cognitive labor that builds expertise — the research, the drafting, the messy first models. And most organizations are celebrating the efficiency gains without asking the question that actually matters: if AI handles the reps, how do your people develop judgment?
My doctoral research on leadership resilience keeps returning to the same finding: resilience isn’t a personality trait. It’s a capacity built through accumulated experience with hard things. Take away the hard things and you don’t just lose productivity depth — you lose the mechanism that creates resilient leaders.
This is what I’m calling the experience crisis. And almost nobody is talking about it.

Beyond Automation: AI as a Strategic Thought Partner

Thinking man, considering how to use AI as augmentation to thinking

The Conversation Is Too Small Most organizations are still talking about AI in the language of efficiency. How do we automate tasks? Reduce cost? Increase speed? That conversation isn’t wrong. It’s just incomplete. The real opportunity isn’t automation. It’s augmentation. AI’s most underutilized role right now is not task execution — it’s thought partnership The […]

Stinkin’ Thinkin’ is Killing AI ROI

The Problem With AI Isn’t Tools. It’s Stinkin’ Thinkin’ in Leadership. Most organizations are doing “AI work” right now—pilots, training, licenses, experimentation. And still, the value isn’t compounding. Here’s what I think is actually happening: The problem with AI isn’t tools. It’s stinkin’ thinkin’ in leadership and problem solving. “Stinkin’ thinkin’” is old recovery language […]
